Heads of State, Organizations Congratulate 98th Anniversary of Afghanistan’s Independence

Heads of state and secretary-general of Shanghai Cooperation Organization sending letters to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani congratulated the 98th anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence to the government and people of Afghanistan and wished peace and prosperity for the country.

The US President Donald Trump said in his message, “The United States joins you in honoring the commitment and patriotism that secured Afghanistan’s independence and sovereignty. Our two countries are bound by a strong partnership and shared commitment to ensure Afghanistan’s continued security, development and unity.”

President Trump’s message further states, “We are confident that the same determination that produced Afghanistan’s independence will secure a more peaceful and prosperous future for all Afghans.”

President of India Ram Nath Kovind in his message stated that the bonds of shared history, close people-to-people ties and commonalities of culture, art, language between India and Afghanistan lay a strong foundation to the two countries’ strategic partnership. 

“India remains committed to partner with Afghanistan in its effort to bring peace, security, stability, unity and prosperity to the country,” said president of India in his message.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, in his message, has deeply admired the resolve and determination of the people and government of Afghanistan to overcome the challenge posed by terrorism and said, “Please be assured that India stands shoulder to shoulder with Afghanistan as a steadfast neighbor and friend.”

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, sending a letter offered his congratulations and said that he was fully delighted for further expansion and consolidation of brotherly relationship between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

President Mirziyoyev referred to the meetings between senior delegations of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan during the recent months as well as the meetings held between presidents of the two countries on sidelines of the international summits and termed President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s upcoming visit to Uzbekistan a helpful step and good perspective towards expansion of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Sergio Mattarella, President of Italy, in his letter to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressing his best wishes for peace and prosperity in Afghanistan said that Italy would continue to show its solidarity and accompany – with multiple cooperation initiatives – the Afghan people and its institutions along the path of pacification, stability, and civil, economic and social progress. 

Rosen Plevneliev, President of Bulgaria, offered his sincere congratulations and wished for health, peace and prosperity to the president and friendly people of Afghanistan. 

“I believe that good traditions in the relations between our two countries are a solid basis for their further development and expansion in areas of mutual interest and in favor of the stabilization and sustainable development of Afghanistan,” said President Plevneliev in his message.

President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika wishing well-being and stability for Afghanistan expressed his country’s solidarity and support for Afghanistan’s effort to defeat the scourge of terrorism. He further added in his message that Afghan people proved their ability to challenge terrorism which is contrary to the values and the teachings of the Islam religion.

Richard Moon Chargé d'Affaires of British Embassy to Afghanistan has conveyed the message of Queen Elizabeth R to President Ghani on the occasion of 98th anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence. Queen Elizabeth R offered her best wishes for the happiness of the people of Afghanistan in the coming year.

Secretary-General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Rashid Alimov sent a letter and extended his sincere congratulations to the president of Afghanistan. He stated in the letter that SCO supports efforts by the government and brotherly people of Afghanistan in building democratic, stable and dynamically developing state, free from terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.

He has also expressed confidence that the more active participation of Afghanistan in the work of SCO will give it additional impetus for even more in-depth cooperation within the organization.
